As part of the BMBF’s “Mathematics for Innovations” programme the KoMSO Challenge Workshop entitled “Mathematical Modeling, Simulation, and Optimization in the Pharmaceutical Industry” will be held at the Interdisciplinary Center for Scientific Computing (IWR, https://www.iwr.uni-heidelberg.de) on June 14 and 15, 2018.
The workshop aims at bringing together experts from pharmaceutical industry and academic research in order to determine which demand can be met by already existent mathematical methods, and to identify new challenges that require the development of new techniques for a sustainable progress in the pharmaceutical industry over the next ten to twenty years.

As in previous KoMSO Challenge Workshops, the results of this discussion will be documented in a position paper in order to promote the use and development of methods for mathematical modelling, simulation, and optimization in industrial practice.
